TI-Russia CEO Wanted in Russia: Organization Unaffected

Today, it has come to our attention that in Russia a criminal case has been initiated against Ilia Shumanov, the Executive Director of Transparency International Russia. While the specific charges remain unclear, it is evident that this action is connected to Ilya’s principled stance and his refusal to label his social media accounts with the discriminatory designation of “foreign agent.”

TI-Russia officially informs all concerned parties that Ilia is safe and will continue his work for the benefit of Russian civil society and the international anti-corruption movement. As an organization, this development will not affect our operations, our commitment, or our belief in a corruption-free Russia.

Note: Transparency International Russia CEO Ilia Shumanov did not participate in the preparation of this statement.
