Transparency International Russia resumes work outside of the Russian Federation

In March 2023, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation recognized the international movement Transparency International (TI) headquartered in Berlin (Germany) as an “undesirable” organization. The practice of applying legislation on such organizations in Russia has made the further work of the Russian Transparency unsafe, despite the fact that it was a separate national organization and legally shouldn`t have borne any responsibility in connection with the decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office. Therefore, our legal entity, the ANO Center for Anti-Corruption Research and Initiatives Transparency International-R (TI-R Center) founded in 1999, was liquidated.

The organization’s website https://transparency.org.ru/ has not been updated since the organization’s activities ceased, and it remains an archive of the work done over many years. However, the experience and knowledge in the field of anti-corruption that we have accumulated over almost a quarter of a century cannot just disappear, so we have decided to resume work outside of Russia in a new format.

Our decision was supported by the international TI movement, and a collective of TI-R team members located outside of Russia received official accreditation as the «Russian TI chapter in exile». TI-R activities are no longer carried out on the territory of the Russian Federation.

We continue and will continue our work to bring about civil engagement against corruption in Russia and uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, integrity and honesty. The TI-R team will produce new research and investigations, as well as strengthen international cooperation in the fight against corruption.
